Double Blank Detection in Sheet Metal Processing

Double Sheet or Double Blank Detectors are required in blank destacker, sheet feeder, robot loader, blank washers, blank lubricator, magnetic conveyors, or in the centering station to provide die protection for stamping presses.  Hidden parts detection enable poka yoke verification in body-in-white production. When manufacturing tailor welded blanks - TWBs - undetected double blanks can cause substantial tool damage. Roland Double Metal Detectors for steel, aluminum, or stainless steel blanks are therefore an important precondition for press automation. Fanning magnets can be helpful in the process. Improved gap-tolerant single probe double sheet sensors can be mounted directly into vacuum cups. Non-contact dual head systems are especially well suited for roll forming application,  magnetic transfers as well as mechanical rail transfers.
Roland Double Sheet Detectors have proved their reliability in thousands of installations worldwide.

Weld Seam Detection and Positioning inTube Benders and Hydroforming Presses

Weld seam detection in tubes with magnetic flux leakage or eddy current is necessary in pipe and tube benders , or in hydroforming presses when cnc tube bending automotive automotive components. such as exhaust manifolds, head rests, side members, roll bars, or engine cradles. The tube manipulation process involves not only pipe and tube bending but also tube cutting, tube forming, tube punching, tube end forming, and tube notching.

Other applications are the detection and elimination of welds  after coil joining in decoilers, blanking presses, or cut-to-length lines thus enabling the use of lower cost welded coils. A related application is the detection of  weld seams in wires and rods and cable connections in the extrusion process.

The new high performance sensor NS24 is capable of detecting weld seams in thick walled ERW-tubes for positioning the weld inbetween the ultasonic probes for nondestructive testing.

A special application of weld seam location is the positioning of 55 gallon drums or similar containers for silk screen printing purposes.

Sheet Thickness Measurement in Metal Coils
Thickness is an important process parameter for the prevention of tool or machine damage or to monitor product quality according to ISO 9000 in blanking presses, slitting lines, cut-to-length lines, scroll shears and other coil processing machinery. Continuous thickness measurement makes the monitoring of the cost of purchased material possible. ROLAND has single sensor measurement systems as well as non-contact dual probe systems available. The systems function according to the magnetic, inductive, or capacitance principles. Detailed measurement protocols according to SPC criteria provide objective information for negotiating with coil suppliers.

 Nondestructive Testing NDT
In continuous production processes it is necessary to detect defects and quality problems online during production and initiate actions to eliminate these problems.  For this purpose Roland Electronic has developed inspection systems based on the eddy current principle as well as magnetic inductive methods.  The eddy current systems are primarily used for detecting defects in the semi-finished materials such wires, rods, cables, tubes and coils.  Magnetic inductive methods are being used in the tried and proven Steel Cord Inspection System for the detection of so-called spacing faults when cutting and splicing steel cord material for the production of steelbelted tires.

 Pharma Blister Package Content Verification
The automatic filling of pharmaceutical blister packages can result in underfill and overfill conditions. For medical products this cannot be tolerated. Verification of content is therefore necessary. In contrast to the customarily used check weigher, the Blister Package Comparator with its eddy current sensors system is based on a measuring principle which is free of inertia resulting in very high inspection velocities with only main minimal space requirements of about 100 mm (4 in.) within the transportation line.
